Turbotax claims that the "State 1 payer number" on one of my 1099s should end with the letters 'WTH', but it doesn't. How do I get the number accepted so I can e-file?

Error message says "State 1 payer number is invalid for Utah. The entry should contain 11 numbers followed by the letters 'WTH'." The number provided on my 1099  begins with 'UT/' and is followed with 8 digits. Error only  appeared after payment was made. That doesn't seem right. I'm concerned that more errors may appear once I resolve this one. We have contacted the bank that provided the 1099 and they haven't provided a form with a number that contains 11 numbers followed by WTH. Is there some kind of work-around that will permit me to e-file?

If there is no state withholding, you could delete the entire state line. Simply delete all state information.

If the state is marked as Utah, the payer ID should be in format. The Utah withholding account number is a 14-character number. The first eleven characters are numeric and the last three are “WTH.” Do not enter hyphens. Example: 12345678901WTH.

The bank should be able to provide you with their UT state ID. Here is what Utah says in Income Tax Withholding - Utah Income Taxes - Utah.gov:

You must claim Utah withholding tax credits by completing form TC-40W and attaching it to your return. ... withholding tax credits may be disallowed if you do not complete TC-40W as ... The Utah withholding account number is a 14-character number. ... Contact the employer or payer of the income to get the Utah ID number.

I've had trouble with the state tax number for the last 4 years.  Last year it wouldn't let me file on line because of it

How can I determine what the Utah payer code for Exxon-Mobil Corporation is?

Exxon must have a state id since they are operating there. They have a business license that I could find. You will need to contact Exxon to determine the 11 digit state id needed.

From Income Tax Withholding - Utah Income Taxes - Utah.gov:

For payer ID:  The Utah withholding account number is a 14-character number. The first eleven characters are numeric and the last three are “wth.” Do not enter hyphens. Example: 12345678901wth. The program wants lower case for wth.  Contact the employer or payer of the income to get the Utah ID number. If there is no state withholding, you can delete the entire state line.
