Turbotax button for walking through entering ESPP 1099b sales no longer works. A "sounds Good" button to initiate walk through, just brings up an "enter on my own" table

This looks like a software bug in the software this year. I have used this successfully for 8 years without problems

You do have the option of installing TurboTax on your computer and moving your TurboTax Online return to that software, which would allow you to complete your return. The walk-through for the ESPP section works as expected in TurboTax CD/Download, including TurboTax Deluxe.

Please clarify the steps you took to reach the "Sounds Good" button. Also, are you entering Form 1099b as individual sales or using a sales summary? Or did you import your 1099-b from a broker?

Hi, I got to this page from the Federal "Income and Expenses", "Stock, bond....1099B", "Long term basis reported to IRS(covered)", selected ESPP option, made my entries. Next page "Next, we'll help you figure out your cost basis", Next page made my entries, Next page "Now, we'll walk you through entering the rest of your sales info". A picture of this page is attached. Problem is that both the "I'll enter this on my own" and "Sounds Good" buttons open exactly the same page (the page opened corresponds to the "I'll enter this on my own" option)

Note: I choose the option to enter my form 1099b as individual multiple sales manually. I did not import itTurbotax bug.png

Are you able to continue from this point to complete your tax return?

Its actually quite inconveniencing, I would have to download and study materials which teach how to manually compute the "Adjusted Cost basis" and "Amount of compensation income", to enable me fill out the attached page for each of my ESPP sales. I can learn it, unfortunately it takes time to accomplish, and had hoped the software would handle that for me.

Thanks for checking anyway

Thank you, I just downloaded and installed the Turbotax software, and that fixed the issue.

I think I prefer the downloaded software interface. The question is, would my tax information be carried over when I download the Turbotax software in 2022? Is it stored in your cloud?

No, your 2021 return will not be stored on TurboTax servers if you are using TurboTax download.  That would not be the case if you were using TurboTax online. Therefore, you will need to maintain your 2021 tax return on your computer, or stored device.  However, you will be able to upload your 2021 return when you begin your tax return for 2022.  You can upload a pdf file of your prior year return.

Here is a link to a TurboTax article that explains the difference between the download and online versions of TurboTax.
