After installing Turbotax 2024 on my Windows 10 desktop, why do I receive the message:
"We recommend restarting your system to prevent possible application errors. Would you like to restart now?
This problem persists after installing the latest update available for the 2024 version.

Had the same error message (could be generic error code though)
Looked at windows event viewer.
Under Windows Logs/Application, the error code pointed to MSVCP1.40.dll which is part of the Visual C++ package.
Downloaded the latest Visual C++ package from
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio...
Choose appropriate option (Repair in my case) when executing downloaded executable.
TurboTax works now.....

Thank you. I'm having the same problem with TurboTax 2024. I hope your solution works for me as well.
Thanks!!!
I figured out the issue as well....In my case, I have TT 2019 - 2023 installed on my desktop. I went into each of these programs and installed the latest update available for that tax year. After which, I installed the latest update available for TT 2024 and opened the current version, TT2024. That seemed to do the trick. I'm assuming that the latest version of C++ was installed during one of the above updates....
thanks for sharing with us!
FYI.....this is the URL for manually updating your TT 2021 - 2024 product: Bookmark it in your browser if needed.
I just wanted to confirm that installing the latest version of Visual C++ distributable x64 *does* fix this problem. I wasted my time reinstalling TurboTax 2024 before I found this thread.
