I opted into the IRS IP PIN program on 2/24/2024, and was issued a six-digit PIN.
At the "Sign Your 2023 Return" screen, Turbo Tax will not accept six digits, it wants five digits.
What do I do?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file. Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.
Your six digit IP Pin is used for identity protection. The five digit sign in pin is used as your signature to e-file your tax return.
Thanks for your reply.
It was helpful.
Re: Turbo Tax doesn't accept my six-digit IP PIN at the "Sign Your 2023 Return" screen.
Your six-digit PIN from the IRS does not go there. That is the IRS Identity pin. Enter your 5-digit e-file pin here.
Follow these instructions to enter your Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) or to remove an IP PIN that you accidentally entered.
I called the TT help line,
open return > Personal > Other Tax Situations > scroll to ID Protection PIN
