I think the 2023 Desktop Deluxe version of turbo tax has a bug. How do I get someone looking at this?
During the error check process, I am getting the following message:
Form W-2 (FIDELITY INVESTMENTS): Nonqualified Distribution (State Amount) - The total amount of Sect. 457 state distributions does not match with the amount of Sect. 457 distributions reported on the federal return. Adjust the state entries as needed.
It then prefills in the same amount for box 11 (b) that is listed in Box 1 of the W-2. I have tried multiple times and combinations of deleting or re-entering the information, and it just continues in a loop, telling me that I have a problem and to correct the error.
Confounding factor is that I live in Texas, which does not have a state income tax, so this amount is really pointless. I didn't have this problem when completing my 2022 tax return, for which I used the same Desktop Deluxe product but for 2022. I believe this to be a software bug in the 2023 version.

I'm not sure why you are getting that message, but since you live in Texas, you can leave the state information off of your W-2 entry if it is reporting income for Texas. It will have no affect on the processing of your federal tax return. This would be the entries in boxes 15 through 17. You error message references state taxes, so there may be entries in those boxes even though they are not required.
Thanks for your response. I did remove the entries from boxes 15 through 17 of the W-2, and I am still getting the error during the error check process. It's actually tripping up on box 11 (cont.), which didn't used to have an entry for nonqualified plans State Allocation, but now does. It is this entry that says it doesn't match the federal return (even though it does match.)
After requesting the diagnostic file below, I received some further information that this is a known customer experience that is being addressed. It is expected to be resolved after 2/2/2024.
In order to take a closer look and report this as a possible software issue, it would be extremely helpful to have a diagnostic copy of your tax file. The diagnostic file will not contain any personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms. All personal information is redacted with 'xxx'. If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using in a follow-up thread.

Token is 1165576. Thanks!
If you click "w-2" and look at that part of the TurboTax forums, you'll see a lengthy discussion of this same issue. The work-around suggested there is to remove the cents from the amount fields (i.e., either round up or down to the next whole dollar. It took me several attempts to do this, but finally this did eliminate the error. Might want to try this while we're waiting for the February fix.
