trying to e-file

Am trying to e-file. Getting error message that says not enough characters for the control number of my Target Corp. W-2. The W-2 form shows control number "N" (same as last year). Is this a Target Corp. error, or is the e-file message incorrect?

You do not need a control number from your W-2 to file your return. Leave it blank. The control number is used for your employers benefit and not governmental bodies.

That seems to have worked immediately. When I went back to resend, it had already been done. Wonder why the same thing didn't happen last year? Thanks.
