I am very frustrated. Turbo tax says that my federal taxes were submitted, and the IRS accepted them (I don't remember even transmitting them) my plan was to do both state and federal together. I also never received an email saying that they were submitted and accepted. In any case, every time I now go and try to submit the state taxes it says it has to be submitted with federal. so, I try and do both and it says you already submitted the federal so you now want to do state? I try to do the state, you cant without doing it with the federal. It is just bringing me around and around., I called support.. they were no help. I also already paid the money to file the state electronically.

You can e-file the state, but not until after your federal has been accepted? When you sign in to TurboTax, does your federal return show accepted? What state are you trying to file? Some states don't allow you to file the returns separately. How do I e-file my state after I already filed my federal?
yes, it says that the federal return was filed and accepted by IRS. but I never got a confirmation e-mail and I don't remember even transmitting it. I thought I was doing them together. NJ state taxes.
NJ will not accept a return until after the federal. Usually your state return just goes to a waiting limbo and you would not be aware. However, this year, you found out that NJ can only be filed after the federal is accepted. Once the federal is accepted, the NJ will go through. If the federal rejects, then you can file them together.
If you want to read about the various states, read the rules here.
but according to turbo tax it did go through and was accepted. it erven said since your federal is done do you want to do state now? but it will not let me
