The program has me ready to send return in without any info on income. how can this happen?

You clicked through to the end and skipped the income section.  TurboTax does the calculations, but you do the entries and the navigation so if you navigated through without entering income, it would get to the spot where it was ready to file. Some people do file returns with no income. 

You can go back to the Federal Income section and walk through to answer the questions on Income.
