The 5 digit Self-Select PIN is a random number that you enter as your electronic signature when e-filing your return.
The IP PIN is a six-digit number that the IRS assigns to victims of tax-related identity theft.
To report your IP PIN in TurboTax:
Submitted tax return with 5 digit pin used last year. Return rejected because of pin problem. Requested and entered 6 digit IP pin from IRS and return rejected second time. Thought maybe IP pin entered wrong and received and entered second 6 digit IP pin and tax return rejected third time for pin problem. What am I doing wrong?
If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file. Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.
