Can a Health Care Exemption number that was used in 2016 be used in tax year 2017?

When claiming an adult dependent can I use the same Health Exemption Code from one tax year to the next?

The exemptions are only good for the year they are issued.  So if theirs was issued for 2016 they would need a new one for 2017.  When you walk through the Health Insurance section and choose that someone did not have insurance all year it will allow you to go through and select one of several other exemptions to have the penalty waived.  If one of those applies you will not be penalized.
