Tax Year 2019 Forms Availability

Tax Year 2019

If you go to view Forms Availability for both Fed & State the web pages shows that the forms are available.

Shouldn't it show pending since very few forms have been released?

I maybe wrong but it does not hurt to mention it.

If I am right someone should fix those pages.

Moderators have been poked about getting that fixed....so Yes...we've noted the same thing now that you've pointed it out.

Just FYI ... the current program is just a beta and is NOT fully operational and will need many updates over the next 3 months .... heck even the IRS still has the 2019 forms in draft format.

If you need to do 2019 What IF tests you really need to use the fully operational 2018 downloaded version... you always use the prior year's program.

Yes I know this is just a "beta" version.

I already use the "What If" within TT. It is a welcomed add on.

I only made note of this because it gives an impression that the forms are ready for use.

Yes I know that if you try to print them out it will say something like Do Not File.

I will buy at a later date.

The forms available FAQ was published earlier in 2019 and is for the 2018 forms - the 2019 forms list is not yet available, however, I agree that the FAQ should state what year the list is for.

The TT program, in the REVIEW tab, will clearly indicate which forms are not yet ready to be filed and when they are expected to be ready ... so  nothing can be filed before it is ready ...

AND the 2019 program has JUST opened up and there are MANY things needing to be updated ... it will take time for everything to get up to speed ... just like it does every year ... patience will be needed.

I am always amazed that folks are surprised the program is not ready to work fully on the first day it is available for downloading ... sadly I wish they would not put out the new program until January but they do to capture the market share and not because they have a working product. If you order a car would you pay for it now and get the chassis but have to wait for the engine to come later ? That is what you are doing when you buy any income tax program before it is fully functional ... you are getting a car without the engine.

And FYI ... all you early users are the beta testers even if you don't know it ... in my opinion they should pay you for finding all the flaws.

Even my professional tax program is not put out until early December under the clear understanding that it is NOT a fully functional version.

@Critter - Because the poster referred to the "web pages" I assumed that it was referring to:

That does not say that the forms available are for 2018 and not 2019.   Most users viewing those pages would think that it was referring  to the new tax year (2019) but the page does not say what year it is for.

And the poster cannot look at what the program says because the poster said "I will buy later".

Well ...  I have  always said the order pages FAILED to correctly identify what tax year is being discussed ... many folks buy the wrong tax year because they do not notice the year on the order notice.   PLEASE pass this up the food chain ... this REALLY NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED  ... how much trouble would it be for the graphic designers to add just a tax year to these order screens ?

Are there any estimates for when forms for the various States will be available for 2019 for TT Desktop? In prior years, when you went to install (or purchase) a specific state, if it wasn't available, it would tell you when it was expected to be available. The process regarding downloading State forms seems to have changes this year and that info is no longer available.

The charts listed below are NOT up do date for 2019 yet ... most likely not until sometime in December ... save the links for future use ...

When will my forms be ready?

Historically, IRS tax forms start becoming available in January, with a few stragglers (most notably Form 1040X) getting finalized in February.

State tax forms can become available for filing any time between December and late February, depending on the state and the tax form.

Can I Still Work On My Return Before My Forms are Ready?

Yes, according to the following:

Federal Taxes
You can still work on your return and finish most of it. Once your forms become available, we’ll create the forms and include all of your info.

You’ll only be able to e-file or print your return once the forms are available.

While you’re working on your return, we’ll ask if you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.

State Taxes 
If your forms aren’t available, you’ll get a message asking you to return once they become available.

While you’re working on your return, you’ll have a chance to let us know you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.
