**Tax Year 2016**I paid child support and spousal support in 2016 and paid health insurance for my ex-spouse for 7 months in 2016. How do I add this to my return?

You can take a tax deduction for the alimony payments, even if you don't itemize your deductions. However, the IRS won't consider the payments to be true alimony unless they are made in cash (including checks or money orders) and spelled out in the divorce agreement. 

Here is how to enter alimony (spousal support) you paid in TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Click take me to my return.(unless already in return)
  3. Click my account, at the top of the page. 
  4. Select tools in the drop down menu.
  5. Click topic search, type in alimony paid and click go.
