There are a lot of reasons why a return can be rejected. One of them is when the return is missing Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement. The IRS compares the information you enter on your return with what they have in their database. When something is missing or mismatched, your return gets rejected. The IRS internal database indicates that a Form 1095-A should have been or will be received by the taxpayer. The ACA Marketplace providers have until January 31 to provide the 1095-A to taxpayers.
In order to electronically file this return, you must provide information shown on Form 1095-A. What needs to be done:
- First, find your 1095-A form. If you don't have it, sign in to your healthcare.gov account and download it. Forms are mailed out at the end of January.
- If you have your 1095-A, please revisit Deductions & Credits section, scroll down to Medical and select Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A). Answer the questions and continue through to enter the details from your Form 1095-A.
- When you're done, continue through to refile your return.
