Tax refund issue

The tax refund amount was $1,272 and some amount was deducted for as service fee and was expecting a payment deposited to my bank account amounting to $1,027 approximately.  The amount I see credited to my bank account is $335.27.

Please explain where the $691 went.

The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.   

The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.
