tax refund for 2021

I filed my 2021 taxes in October 2021 and requested a large refund that was quite different from what I had preliminarily calculated in April when I filed for my extension. Not only have I still not received my Federal refund (I did receive my state refund quite quickly, all filed on paper) but there is no record of my refund on the Where's my Refund? site. I realize there are millions of Federal refunds sitting somewhere but I am wondering when I should begin to seriously worry that my 2021 tax forms never arrived. Is there anything else I can do other than just wait for the government to catch up?

I am assuming you are asking about your 2020 tax return that you filed in 2021.

The Where's my Refund? tool is showing 2021 tax returns now, so there is no way to check on the return automatically. 

You can check your tax account with the IRS to see if they are processing a 2020 tax return for you. Click here to check your IRS account.

You can also call the IRS since it has been a few months, but you may not get through this time of year.
