I downloaded documents from financial institution. After much earlier being frustrated since it would NOT import from 2022 H&R Block requiring me to do a lot more work. which does not work well w ADHD. (I also downloaded PDFs for myself)
So got going on this & downloaded docs. As I was ready to e-file Fed before midnight deadline it gave me 2 separate errors.
for 1099 R it said street address required. Just PO Box was on the form. I can’t believe that is that critical with it not having been corrected.
then for 1 fund it said 1 field needed to be smaller than another. so I was madly trying to read the pdfs & figure it out.
decided to just try going ahead & e-filing before midnight deadline but by then it showed 12:01 & e-file closed so need to mail. Which will make it even later.
but then I dug into it more & the TT downloaded version had box 12 as 0 & box 13 as 66.84
but the $66.84 belongs in Box 12 & box 13 is $12.27 I discovered when I navigated to the downloaded 1099 worksheet.
I called the payor & they are not aware of any issues in their end. I see others mentioning download issues w TT from different financial institutions.
Thing is, I can & did correct Box 13 but TT bad programming didn’t consider that it might not just be 1 box but both boxes that need editing.
So these errors not only caused me to miss the deadline which will result in fines or penalties, but I don’t even know how to move ahead since it will not allow me to correct box 12!
I tried to correct it after I discovered the discrepancy. All I was able to do was to put a note in pop up box. I tried to put the amounts in that column but then it added them. So just put box # & correct amount in the description field. But the field used for calculations is still wrong.
& I don’t even understand what they are all about. For those muni bond fund.
so I have no idea how that will affect the overall calculations or how to fix it so I can finish up & file.
& I hope TT will be responsible for the extra costs incurred as a result of all this.
Not to mention the hours of my time trying to get it resolved & done.
(on top of a power outage here for about 5 hours.
I didn’t mine H&R Block & was glad to come back to TT (only reason I used H&R was my old Mac was too old to run TT last year.) I have since upgraded. But now similar errors getting in the way of filing!

Update.
As I was about to go to sleep last night I thought of a solution. I deleted that 1 1099 that was wrong & re-downloaded it. This time it had both of those boxes blank!
I was still trying to correct it. Went ahead w state. But realized the issue is state relevant since it is muni bond fund & there is portion from OR. Still couldn’t figure out a way to correct it.
so then I again deleted the form & downloaded it. Same as the 2nd download. Both of the boxes were blank. But then as I was going around it I noticed an edit button in the guided part & it did allow me to correct the #s. To fill them in. Part of it is the small print where I didn’t notice it.
but TT messed up in not downloaded the 1099 form correctly. 1st time it did it wrong 1 way. Then next 2 times it still did it wrong but w out anything in those boxes.
but it was TT not downloading the form correctly & directions not being clear that caused me to not be able to get at least the Fed done before the deadline. & I’m afraid I will be facing penalties or fines. I’ll have to print them out & enclose an explanation of what happened & hopefully not have to pay penalty. Have both tax due as well as estimated to catch up on.
so NOT HAPPY WITH TT MISTAKES COSTING ME& MISSING OUT ON E-File which was included! Or supposed to be. I would think they could still allow e-file w a date stamp indicating it was after the deadline but allowing it to get in several days sooner than mailing & now I guess I will not only have to print all that but send it certified. & not happy with all the xtra hours it has taken!
If the 1099 didn't download correctly or you need to change it you should delete it and then re enter it MANUALLY. You should always double check everything especially items you import. Something to remember for next year. A 1099DIV should be just as fast and easy to enter it by hand.
Well I finally saw the tiny print edit button & was able to edit the 2 fields.
but that is very lame that TT can’t download them correctly.
& no they are not as easy to do manually. I remember several years before they could be important. Many of them have a lot of fields to enter so it was somewhat labor intensive.
so the whole point of being able to download them is to save time. I ended up downloading it 3x after deleting the 1st 2. All 3 times were wrong. The 1st time skewed the data putting it in the wrong box. The next 2 times those boxes were blank. & that particular one was a muni bond fund which had more boxes w data than other ones. Obscure stuff. But after a while I realized those fields had to do with state issues.
I finally was able to get it done but thanks to TT several days late.
& here’s another weird thing. I tried to file to beat the deadline before figuring those fields out but it said it was 12:01 & e-filing was closed. I would have to print & mail it.
but then when I was all done & did the review & went to the file section it had the usual asking if I wanted to e-file (which was included w my purchase). I almost didn’t try but then decided to go ahead & enter my bank info to pay & went through all & it did let me e-file fed. I’m debating whether to mail state or try e-filing it to get it over with. & I have a $10 credit. Still need to send in estimated payments.
but I am angry about all the extra work since TT could not do what it was supposed to. & that prevented me from filing by the deadline. I’m dreading finding out what penalties there maybe for that due to their mistakes.
& a reason it was so late was the frustration when I looked like it should be able to import last years H&R Block return (since my Mac was too old to run TT. I have since bought a newer one. But also wish there was an easy way to increase the font size in the display.
