Submitting documentation for waiving an underpayment penalty

You can do this in TurboTax.  As long as you meet the qualifications for the penalty waiver, you can check the box to request a waiver and TurboTax will generate Form 2210 for you.  No separate documentation is required. TurboTax will remove the penalty based on the information entered on the form. If for some reason the IRS needs further information they will contact you.

To get to these screens in TurboTax you can:

  1. Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type underpayment penalty in the search box
  3. Click on the link that says Jump to underpayment penalty
