State taxes for a New Jersey resident who works primarily remotely in NYC

As recommended by Turbo tax I filed both NYC and NJ state taxes for 2022 but the calculation for NYC state tax was 0. Is it really necessary to file NYC state tax return for 2023 ?

Yes, you are required to file a New York nonresidential tax return because you worked in New York and have New York sourced income.

New York and New Jersey are not reciprocal states in that there is no agreement between the two states that allows residents of one state to request exemption from tax withholding in the other (reciprocal) state.

Some states do not require you to file a state tax return if you owe no money, but New York is one of the states that requires you to file a New York State tax return if you had any income during your resident period or if you had New York source income during your nonresident period,
