I have been using Turbo Tax for years and I always by the 5 Federal Taxes and 1 Free State Tax.  I have NEVER been given a free state tax courtesy.  I select the option when I start the process but I think that because I don't file it at the time of it being updated I am not given the option when I file to use the free filing.  I think that your program needs updating as again I've used this program since at least 2015 and never got a free filing.

This is my biggest complaint with this program.

There is no free state e-file courtesy.   When you use desktop software the software includes the program to prepare the returns for one specific state.   There is ---and has been for years---- an extra fee to e-file the state.   It is currently $20 to e-file the state and increases to $25 in March.   You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print, sign and mail the state instead.

Ah, read the small print...State download is free, but there is a charge to efile state. You can print and file state by mail for no additional TT fee.  I don't know why TT does it this way, except that some states do not have a state income tax.

If you purchase the TurboTax Deluxe desktop CD/Download edition or higher from the TurboTax website then there is always one free state program download included in the purchase price.  There is not a free state e-filing when using the TurboTax desktop editions (except New York state which is free to e-file).

The current e-file fee for a state tax return is currently $20 and will increase to $25 after the end of February.  This e-file fee can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

There has been a state e-file fee using the TurboTax desktop editions for at least the last 15 years.
