is it possible for my state refund to be more than my federal refund?

Yes, this is possible, especially if you had a lot of state tax withheld from your paycheck.

Yes, your state refund can be bigger than your federal refund. I have the same situation this tax return. Depending on the amount, you might want to consider reducing the amount of withholding. RW

Yes, your state refund can be larger than your federal as RW56 pointed out.  If you have not filed your return, please take a look at your Tax Summary.

 

This summary lists your income, taxes, payments and withholding, and should give you a good idea of how the amount of your state and federal refunds were determined.  

 

Choose Tools/Tax Tools/View Tax Summary.  See this link for more details:  View my Tax Summary before Filing  (The State Tax Summary will be just above the Federal Tax Summary in the black menu also)
