Spouse moved abroad to be with son who attends school there - how to file?

We are US citizens and have home here. My wife wanted for our son to attend school abrad and she is there with him. They spend summers here. She did take a job there and this income will be reported as foreign income.  How should I file? Jointly? Should I claim US residency?

@Largo703 , you can still file Married Filing Joint ( MFJ), report her income as foreign earned income and be able to take advantage of Foreign Earned Income Exclusion / Foreign Tax credit etc. to mitigate the effects of double taxation.

You have till June 15th to file  ( but must pay any dues by April 18th. ).

Which country is she in ?   Does she maintain a separate house there?

You also can file MFS while she files HoH ( because she is maintaining a home for a child.

You / she can claim foreign earned income and the exclusion limits are found here: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/figuring-the-foreign-earned-income-exclusion

She is in EU and maintains a house there. Deadline is in 2 days and I didn't want to file extension. Thank you!
