I am self-employed and itemize deductions. My husband is getting Social Security. He is not on my business as I am an independent contractor, but we file jointly.

Can I include the costs of his Medicare Part D in my deductions?

Yes if you voluntarily pay and there were no other health plans available.

Self-employed is sch C and you claim business expenses. Itemized deductions are sch A and could include medical expenses. I am going to assume you mean forego the itemized deductions to claim the business deduction. The business medical deduction does not go on Sch C. Instead, it is entered:

under Less Common Business Situations,
select Self-Employed Health Insurance

About Form 7206, Self-Employed Health Insurance Deduction states: The insurance plan must be established, or considered to be established, as discussed in the following bullets, under your business. • For self-employed individuals filing a Schedule C (Form 1040) or Schedule F (Form 1040), a policy can be either in the name of the business or in the name of the individual.

Medicare premiums you voluntarily pay to obtain insurance in your name that is similar to qualifying private health insurance can be used to figure the deduction.

But don't include the following. • Amounts for any month you were eligible to participate in a health plan subsidized by your employer or your spouse's employer or the employer of either your dependent or your child who was under the age of 27 at the end of 2024.

Thank you-yes, that's where I put the medical deductions under less common.

I pay for my own medical and he has medicare advantage. I guess we are "voluntarily" paying for the part d. He doesn't have any employer sponsored options.
