Only the simplest returns with no schedules can be filed using the Free Edition.  See the TurboTax FAQ below for explanation:

"Is TurboTax Free Edition right for me?"

And there are two free editions.

You might be able to use the Free File  (formally called Freedom Edition) for incomes under $33,000 and supports all states and most forms.

The Free File is part of the IRS Free File alliance and is totally separate from TurboTax website.

How do I switch to TurboTax Free File?

And that's covered in the advertising where?!?! Also, I have no other schedules being filed...it IS a simple return! Standard deduction and that's it!! What now?!?!? And your BS answer about under $33,000 is again, just BS because we were over that last year and were able to file itemized for free! Sell BS and crazy somewhere else!!!

SuperUsers are just other users like you here - not TurboTax employees.   Just trying to tell you about other free options.

The Free Edition (part of the IRS alliance), cannot be advertised or promoted by TurboTax (or any other vendor) by IRS regulations - it must be totally separated from other products.   It cannot even be accessed from the same website per IRS rules.

[Personally I did not like those ads either, although it was spelled out in the "fine print" than nobody reads.]

@cdbkmbbrb132 The new tax laws also brought a number of "new" schedules.  Many users who have filed before using the Free Edition are being required to upgrade to a paid edition this year.  See the TurboTax FAQ linked here:
