scratch ticket winnings

I am asking for my son who has won a substantial amount on a scratch off ticket. Can the losing scratch tickets he purchased throughout the year be used as gambling losses? They were purchased in cash but he has the actual losing tickets physically in hand.

Yes, he can deduct losses up to his winnings.  Keeping those tickets was wise and will save him in taxes!  See Can You Claim Gambling Losses on Your Taxes? - TurboTax.

Great thank you! He kept them just in case since it was a large amount. Much appreciated!
