Question

Schedule D and Forms 8949 don't match?

TurboTax Home and Business (desktop):

I have populated the details from two 1099B statements from my brokerage detailing numbers for:

> short term (Box A) with and without amounts disallowed by wash sale

> short term (Box B)

> long term (Box D)

> long term (Box E)

The generated Schedule D captures and summarize all of the results. (So far so good!)

However, the generated forms 8949 are missing values and don't support/jive with Schedule D. Specifically omitted from form 8949 are: (a)  "Box A" values with no wash sale and (b) All of the "Box D" values.

Is this a bug or a feature or my lack of understanding of how 8949 and Schedule D work together?

this is recently new undocumented behavior of TurboTax.

Detail Reporting Exception: if you summarize Category A or Category D, Form 8949 is not needed for transactions without adjustments. No mailing is necessary.

Line 2 of Form 8949 Page 1 should match Schedule D Line 1b.
