How do I go into my federal tax return that was submitted and see what makes up the figure on line 5a?

For the sales tax deduction, you can find that on a supporting form called the Tax & Int Wks (Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet).  That is the tax that was used if the box is checked in front of line 5a.

For state and local income tax, you can find that on a supporting form called State Tax Ded (State and Local Tax Deduction Worksheet).

Most Sales Tax deductions come straight form the IRS sales tax tables, which are based on your location, income, and number of persons.
