How do you figure out the amount of sales tax you pay in a year?

There are two options for calculating the sales tax paid during a year:

1. Keep track of every purchase you make for the year.  Obviously this is not a great option!
2. Use the IRS Sales Tax Deduction calculator, which is based on your estimated income, your zip code, and the cost of any large items you've purchased during the year.  You can find the calculator here:  Sales Tax Deduction Calculator
