Retrieving a partially completed return

I completed the Federal portion of my return on the Free File program a couple of days ago and saved it on the Turbo Tax system. When I tried to retrieve it to complete it,  all the information was not decipherable as it was in HTM format! How can retrieve my partially completed return in a format that is comprehensible  to complete it? Or do I start all over again?

TurboTax automatically saves your information when you sign out. When you log back in using the same User ID and password, you will pick up right where you left off or you can revisit other sections by selecting from the displayed list.

Log completely out of all TurboTax accounts if you have more than one.

You can use this link https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/ to recover your account with your phone number. If that doesn't work there is a small blue link at the bottom that says Try something else and if you click on that you can locate your account by using your SSN, name, and birthdate.

After launching the TurboTax program, you can either:

  • Click Continue under the return you want to open, or
  • Select Open Tax Return from the File menu (Windows) or TurboTax menu (Mac), browse to the location of your .tax or tax data file (not the PDF), select it, and then select Open.
