I started a new job this year. I work remotely (not my own business). Are there any deductions I can use on my tax return?

Sounds like you are a W-2 employee working at home.

In 2018 tax laws changed and eliminated most of the employee business expenses.

There are a few areas of employment where the employee can still deduct certain expenses.  These are:

    • Armed Forces reservists
    • Qualified performing artists
    • Fee-basis state or local government officials
    • Employees with impairment-related work expenses
