Question

Remote work in CA moving to FL

My family is considering moving to Florida before Jan 2022. I would still continue to work for my employer here in CA but would reside in Florida. For my 2022 tax year filed in 2023 would I end up still paying CA state tax?

Generally if you work in California, whether you're a resident or not, you have to pay income taxes on the wages you earn for those services. That's due to the “source rule”: California taxes all taxable income with a source in California regardless of the taxpayer's residency.  Please see the attached link for more information on nonresidents working remotely for CA businesses:

Thank you! From your article looks like as long as I work remotely and never step foot in a CA office I will not have to pay tax.
