Rejected Taxes

My fiancé and I filed taxes separately (not married or living together) we have 2 children.

She claimed one and I claimed the other. We each had the non claimed child listed as a non dependent.

Her taxes were accepted and mine were rejected. I filed an extension and now need to figure out how to fix it.

When you file and each claim a child, then you leave the other child off of your return.  Yours was probably rejected due to her having the other child on her return.  You both cannot claim the EITC or CTC.  Also, only one of you can say that the child lived with you for more than 6 months if you do not live together.

She would have to amend her return and mail it in.  You would have to print and mail your return for it to be accepted.   The amended return can take up to 16 weeks to be processed.
