My return keeps getting rejected with message about return has already been accepted, cannot submit duplicate return. Well MY return hasn't been accepted so what exactly does this mean? I have checked and double checked several times and I entered my social security number correctly.

It means that someone has submitted a return using that Social Security number--maybe even by mistake----but if a return has been accepted into the system using your SSN, you cannot e-file this year. Your return will have to be printed, signed and mailed. Then the IRS will sort out the mismatch.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
