Reject Code IND-196-01

My return was rejected with Code IND-196-01.  The initial explanation was not understandable, but when I went back into the return, it said, "Due to a timing issue or a processing error that has been corrected.  No changes are needed to your tax return, it just needs to be e-filed again."  So I re-e-filed it, and it was immediately rejected a second time.  Two questions:  1)  How many times can I re-e-file my return (I do NOT want to mail it!), and 2) Would you recommend that I wait (a day, two days . . . ?) before e-filing it a third time.  My message said the problem had been corrected, but that doesn't appear to be the case.  Thank you for your advice!

Reject Code IND-196-01

Please try the following steps which may help clear the loop you are experiencing.  You might try this and then wait until tomorrow to e-file:

  • Log completely out of Turbo Tax.
  • Then, clear your cache and cookies within your browser and completely close out of it.  I have included the Help Articles below if you need assistance with clearing cache or cookies.
  • Re-open the browser and log back into Turbo Tax and see if this fixes the situation.
    • You can also try a different browser as well, or "incognito mode".

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, please reach back out here in the thread and someone will follow up with the next steps.
