That rejection code says that two different taxpayers were claiming the same student for educational tax credits. As your return got rejected, someone else had already filed for those credits, quite possibly your son. If he is a dependent of yours, that is you have provided more than half his support outside of scholarships, it is almost always better for you, the parent, to claim the credits as you are eligible for any refundable portion of the credit whereas he isn't. ( IRS Publication 970 has all the details.) In that case, your son should amend his return to delete the education credits and efile the amended return. Once it has been accepted, probably within a couple of days, you are then free to resubmit your return.
