Refund for NY tax withheld in error

My previous employer withheld NY tax from a nonqualified retirement plan. But I did not live or work in NY during 2019. I allocated 0% of my income to New York. I am getting an error message that says NY will reject my return unless I allocate income to NY. How do I correct this to get my full refund?

I can't explain why you can't e-file without allocating any income to New York.  One option would be to print and mail your New York return.  Another would be to allocate $1 to New York.
