Question

Refund Amount

Hi, I did the free version of Turbo tax for the first time but was not sure if the stated refund amount was correct. I did not submit it after completion. My local library had tax free service through ARAP. They did my taxes and the refund amount is 1,000 less than turbo tax stated. I have a very simple tax form so I'm not sure how it could be that much of a difference?

No one can see what you did at the library or what you did using TurboTax.   You entered something differently on one of them if your results were dramatically different.   It is possible that when you tried using TT you missed the question about the recovery rebate credit and did not answer it correctly.   That would have artificially inflated your refund.

Your best course of action would be to compare both returns (line by line) to determine what is different.

To preview your return in TurboTax, please follow the instructions below:

    1. Open your return.
    2. Click on Tax Tools on the left hand side.
    3. Click on Tools.
    4. Click on View Tax Summary.
    5. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left hand side.
