Recovery Rebate

I was one of the people who had my AGI reduced due to the tax relief for unemployment benefits.  I file as Head of Household(1 child) and my original AGI was $117,076.  This resulted in a 3rd stimulus payment that was reduced to $1,091.  After the relief for the tax on unemployment benefits, my AGI was reduced to $110,900 and I received a refund from my original tax return and additional money for the 1st & 2nd stimulus payment and now got the full amounts.  This was through an automatic review that the IRS did.  If I understand the stimulus payments correctly, I should have received a Plus Up payment for the 3rd stimulus check.  I didn't and when the guidance on TT and IRS is that if you file electronically, this will be reviewed and address at this time.  Everything I read said the 2021 3 stimulus check was based on the 2020 AGI.  The TT review did not bring up anything about it and I don't know where to go from here.  Any suggestions.

For the 2021 stimulus payment, you need to be looking for the Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return.  Your 2020 tax return was likely processed too late to get the Plus Up Payment out to you.  Please follow these steps:

1. Open your tax return in TurboTax Desktop.
2. Search for Recovery Rebate Credit using the magnifying glass near the top of the screen on the right.
3. Click the Jump to recovery rebate credit link.
4. Answer the question regarding the payment you received.

Does this only work in the desktop version?  I use the on line version, not from a cd. I clicked on the jump to link, but it just does a federal review and does not ask me any questions.

The online version should be the same.   BUT the 3rd Stimulus payment is really based and reconciled on your 2021 AGI now. They just used your 2020 return to send it out fast.  So if your 2021 AGI is high you might not qualify for it but you can keep what you already got.  

If you did not get prompted to enter your stimulus information, that means you either:

1. Filed as a dependent being claimed on another tax return, or 
2. have an AGI too high to claim the recovery rebate

To get to the stimulus questions in TurboTax at any time, you can search for stimulus and use the Jump to link.  After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, it will be the first question.

If you are trying to trigger it, you can go to Other Situations, answer any questions and click Done. The next automatic selection is Federal Review and it will ask about payments received.
