I am using the online version of TT Premiere. In the final review, TT gave me an item to check: "you have an entry on schedule 2, recapture of federal mortgage subsidy, and the supporting form 8828 is not supported. . . .. we are unable to e-file . . . . "
I have not had a mortgage in decades, I have never had a federal mortgage subsidy, and I have no idea where this entry would have come from.
From this page with the notation, there are only 2 options, back and continue. There is no button that takes me to the problematic entry. Going back won't help and hitting continue would imply that I agree with the entry and agree to use the mail-in process. I do not.
I searched help for "recapture of federal mortgage subsidy" and all combinations of those keywords, for schedul 2 and form 8828 and there was nothing helpful to explain the issue and no hot button to take me to the section that is causing the problem.
I reviewed all the sections in the deductions and credits area having to do with property or mortgages and I cannot find anything indicating a mortgage, a subsidy or a recapture of any sort in my data entry.
I cannot view the tax forms the software has prepared. The instructions from the help menu instruct me to go to "tax home" and look for "anything else to enter?" and there is no such button visible on the tax home page. Help further tells me that the forms are not visible during certain points in the tax interview.
I am beyond frustrated at this point, having invested hours in my tax prep, and they are threatening to increase the price of the product if I don't file by . . .well by midnight today, less than an hour away.
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

Oh no, disaster: I just spent about 30 minutes on the phone with TT helpdesk and was advised I have 2 options:
1. pay the final fee even though there is an error on the return just so I can generate the tax forms and use those to troubleshoot. Hopefully seeing the forms will enable me to find where the error came from. No, they cannot look at the forms for me / with me while we are troubleshooting.
or
2. Take screen shots of every single screen in TT Premiere, obliterate the whole return and start over. It was 18 hours of work to do it the first time.
Oh, no, there has got to be a better answer. Really hope someone can point me to which section might be generating this "recapture of federal mortgage subsidy" that I never had or did. <<sigh>>
