Does anyone know if Intuit has addressed this issue? A search of the TurboTax is futile. I really need to know iif I should be looking for a TT replacement or not.
Thanks
My new iMac (M2 or M3 I believe) runs TT desktop 2023 and 2024 just fine. Where are you seeing information that it doesn't?
In order to run TT on native Mac silicon, mine is M4, you need to install Rosetta. Rosetta is the transition layer that allows software built for Intel hardware to run on Apple silicone.
if you Open System Information. In the left column select Applications. Then sort the results by Kind. If you have any Intel software on your machine, Rosetta has been installed so it can run..
translation software can slow down your machine and cause other nasty things to happen. Apple provides binaries that
applications can be written to support both processors natively. It’s time that TurboTax be updated to support both.
TurboTax policy is to support only the latest, not legacy.
That may be so but that is not what is happening here. Apple dumped the Intel based processor for their arm chips. Apple silicon was first introduced for Macs with the M1 chip in November 2020. The current chip is the M4. So for TurboTax not to support legacy hardware, they would need to support the Apple ARM family of processors. They do not do that right now. They support running Turbotax by running Rosetta 2 which is a dynamic binary translator. Basically translate X84 to ARM. TurboTax is relying on a hardware translator to support their software. I do not run translators. I once was on a project that tried to write one. When efficient and running well they are ok. When the software breaks, debugging can sometimes be a bear. The translators can also slow up your machine. So if TurboTax does not want to support the current Apple architecture, please just let me know and I will go elsewhere. I have been using TT since 2006 but I am willing to convert.
