Lady, are you kidding me? Have you read the threads!!!!!
Why would it ask if you tested positive for coronavirus?
It would not ask that specifically. It would say something like.. Have you or a family member been adversely affected by Covid 19. And they also mentioned something about a 1099. Well there isn't a 1099 this year. That was reported on last year's taxes. These people really have no idea what they are talking about. Thats the frustrating thing!
When I first joined this thread, I was an angry young man, and thought this was a serious problem. But now that I've grown old waiting for the 8915-F to be integrated into TurboTax, my anger has faded and I have come to see it for the delightfully absurd comedy that it truly is.
Enough excuses! Just do your job and make form 8915-F available in turbotax. That's what we're paying you for! Work until it's done, plain and simple! We're not waiting until the end of March! Get it done within the next seven days or I'm going somewhere else. Time is $! Get to work!
I don’t know about the rest of y’all. But my 8915A-T 2016 relates back way back to Harvey. We got no benefits, paid taxes because we were absolutely homeless, no flood insurance, never flooded before but we have great jobs. That said I deleted, filed, and accepted. Oh and we are 65 plus, no penalties.
Thanks---but I removed the one third distribution from Freetaxusa's computation and it did go up a little bit, but not enough to explain the vast discrepancy. Also, Freetaxusa said that my last year's state tax refund was taxable and TurboTax said that it was not. I would be careful. The grass may not always be greener on the other side. I'll just have to wait for Turbotax--unfortunately. I am so Annoyed with them.
I honestly don’t know why I keep revisiting this forum, but I really don’t get the overzealous defense of TurboTax in this case.
First, with any guided tax prep service, you are technically self-preparing your taxes. So you really need to know what the end result should roughly be before you even start. If you don’t know what your end result should be if you did your taxes manually, then you really don’t know which service is correct.
My end result was dollar for dollar identical between TT and FreeTaxUSA. (I had paid taxes on 1/3 of my covid withdrawal last year, and recontributed 2/3 for this tax return. So it was a net zero effect on my taxes, but I still had to file 8915-f to document the recontribution.)
In this instance, TT is offering a subpar product (delayed forms, unclear info) for at least 5 times the cost ($15 vs $80+).
I looked into it, and the free file partners on the IRS site are part of a public-private-partnership to make e-filing more accessible and cheaper for people. The participating companies have to meet certain criteria such as not trying to up-sell customers on uneccessary services. TT has decided not to participate in that public-private partnership probably bc they wouldn’t make as much money.
Also, another aspect I thought was interesting on FreeTaxUSA is that you can see draft versions of your actual IRS forms and worksheets as you go, which you can’t do on TT. (Again, if TT allowed that, people could use the guided service, but then manually do their taxes and not pay. ) Obviously that wouldn’t be good for business, but I’m just pointing out a difference that is probably related to the public-private-partnership thing.
So I really don’t care if anyone uses the other companies, but defending TT so hard in this case is puzzling for sure.
Any updates on when this 8915-F form will be out of draft state from the IRS?
It is going to take over a month and a half? That is not acceptable. Why would it take even close to that long? It should be completed within a week of the IRS finalizing the form!
Checking again. Waiting for the 8915-F instructions on TurboTax online. When do you anticipate it will be available?
I see that your site says the form will be available 3/31/2022. I seriously hope this is not the case. I agree that this is not acceptable.
I sure hope Turbo Tax will respond to you post and give us more information. As you are right, 3/31/2022 is just unacceptable.
Come on Turbo Tax lets get it together. March 31st is not acceptable! 👎
