Hey, just a heads up. I just had my issue resolved because I was using the wrong tax bracket. I know you said that you validated it, but just double check because I am filing single and used worksheet 3, which is for married jointly. If you are filing single, you need to use worksheets starting at 7
Yeah.... no. I've triple checked and I'm using the right bracket. Turbotax is calculating it incorrectly.
Okay. Have a look at my thread and maybe show some screenshots of how you are calculating it. Otherwise they will want you to send them a scrubbed version of your taxes to look at
Depending on your income, NY requires you to recapture (add back) the benefit you receive from the progressive tax rates. This essentially creates a flat tax rate for higher income earners, so all of your income is taxed at your marginal rate. Because of this rule, you wouldn't be able to just use the tax brackets to calculate your income tax. You'd need to use the worksheets that have the recapture built in.
If you'd like, we can look at your return and see exactly what you see to help come to a resolution. The return will be scrubbed and won't include any of your personal details.
If you're using TurboTax Online:
Once you're logged in to your account and have your amended return open,
- on the left hand panel, click on Tax Tools and then choose Tools
- on the pop up window, select Share my file with Agent
- you'll see a message saying you'll give us a copy of your tax return. Your personal information will be changed so we can't see any private information.
- click okay and you'll get another message with a token
If you're using TurboTax Desktop:
Please reply to this message with your token so that we can further assist you. Let us know all other states that are included on the return.
Thank you! My token is 1302869.
Thank you for sending over your token!
As I expected, due to your level of income your tax would be calculated in a different way than just using the rate schedules. Using the link you shared earlier, if you scroll down a little to the next section, you'll see how tax is computed for people with certain incomes. Your tax is being calculated properly using Worksheet 4.
