Stimulus payments went into a joint account my ex never closed

When I put in the half amount it says I qualify for the stimulus credit but that amount isn't going to match what the IRS will have on record as the distribution.  I don't want any red flags but I also don't want to miss a credit I'm entitled to.  Any suggestions?

It is not clear how the IRS will handle this situation. However, you are justified in entering -0- for what you received if that is true. The IRS knows how much stimulus they sent out on your account, so they will adjust your stimulus payment accordingly when they process your tax return.

I would actually be claiming half the amount, not zero, because I did transfer  half the money into my account. But we can’t both claim the whole amount and we should both claim zero.  I would be reporting it accurately but I think it will also flag into return...right?

Are you filing a joint return this year?   If the IRS sent a joint payment for you and your ex, you should enter that amount.   You are not going to have to pay back anything you got that you did not qualify for but you also do not want to claim a recovery rebate that you are not eligible to receive.
