I have found a software bug in 2025 TT Premier desktop for Mac. The bug is associated with prizes and awards.
The filing status for my return is Married Filing Joint. This has been entered correctly and shows correctly on Form 1040.
My wife won $250 at a local art fair. I entered this amount in the income section of TT. She did not receive any tax form with the check. I entered this amount in the prize section (not from gambling) for my wife. This amount shows correctly on Form 1040 Schedule 1 line 8i.
When I run the TT review, it says there is an error. TT thinks I entered a gambling winning and thinks I did not file married jointly. When I open the Other Income form, the $250 shows as gambling income.
there is an obvious bug that needs to be fixed.

Both the Windows and Mac versions of TurboTax Desktop will properly categorize prize winnings as non-gambling income, if the questions in the Prizes and Awards section are answered as follows:
In Prizes and Awards, under Less Common Income:
The prize and award winnings will then appear on Schedule 1, line 8i, Prizes and Awards, and not on 8b as Gambling income.
However, I got the same issue with filing status that you did when I entered the Prize income as received by the wife - it said this item was invalid because the filing status wasn't Joint. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I am reporting the issue with the filing status for investigation.
In order for us to troubleshoot this issue with your product, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:
We will then be able to review your file to see what you are seeing, and we can determine what is going on in your return and provide you with a suggested resolution.
EDIT :: 02/13/26 This issue has been resolved with a recent update

The original poster provided the EXACT PROCESS I followed leading to the same issue.
Therefore, Turbo Tax support can EASILY recreate this issue instead of kicking can down the road by requesting further customer information.
