[Non Resident Alien] Do I have to pay taxes on money received from parents ?

I'm a non resident alien (Student on an F1 visa).  My family (who is foreign) lives abroad and wants to send me a substantial amount of money. Should I declare that to the IRS ? Is it taxable ?

No, gifts are not reported on an income tax return.

Is it possible to find a reference on that matter ?

Gifts received from an individual and gifts given to an individual are never reported on a tax return.

IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/frequently-asked-questions-on-gift-tax...

However, if a gift received from a foreign individual is over $100,000 then the receiver of the gift must report the gift received on IRS Form 3520.  This is an informational form only and not a tax return.

IRS website for Form 3520 - https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-3520

1 - In the case of a gift of more than $100 000, does the receiver who is a non resident alien needs to fill the IRS form 3520 ?

2 - Does informational implies that no amount will be deducted from the gift ?

If you are a nonresident alien then you are not a US person who would be required to report the gift on a Form 3520.

Informational means no taxes would be owed for the gift received.

The receiver of a gift from an individual is never taxed on the gift, regardless of the amount received.
