Misinformation on phone?

I’m currently filing 2017 tax returns that I neglected. I was told on the phone that I with 2017 TurboTax Deluxe, I cannot file self-employment income and taxes and that I’ll need home & business? Is this somehow true? Because I’m currently using deluxe and am filling out SE as we speak...

You can use Deluxe.  All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.   Only in the Online versions you need the higher version.  And you can even use Deluxe in Online if you only have self employment income.  If you have any expenses you need the online Self Employed version .
