I have actually already gotten my tax refund after filing via Turbtax. My problem is that I updated the program and after it updated all of my tax information is lost and Turbotax is acting like I am just starting to do my taxes. I need to get a copy of my tax forms for my records.

You used online software, e-filed and already received your refund? Then what exactly do you mean by "I updated the program......" ???? What did you do?

I simply opened Turbotax after already filing my taxes for this year so I could save my data to different files so that even if my computer crashed I had multiple copies of my tax return. It said there were updates and installed them. It then opened afterwards to a screen that said welcome to tubotax, let's get started getting you the biggest refund - or something to that affect. None of my submitted tax return is there. It says they can't find any files. I even clicked on amend already filed return and it says it can't find the file.

I did not use online I used my Microsoft desktop to do and file my taxes. I have used Turbotax for many years, and almost every time you open the file it has an update. Every time you go to close Turbotax it asks if you want to save it - I always save it. My computer hasn't crashed, it is working just fine, but all the data was lost for my tax return this year. Now you say all I have to do is fork over $50 and I am good to go with a copy of my filed taxes?

When you say all your data was lost when you updated the program, I’m assuming you are working with TurboTax CD/Download.

An update will not erase your data unless you never saved your tax file in the first place.

Transcript

A transcript shows most line items including the adjusted gross income (AGI) from your original Form 1040. It doesn't show changes made after you filed your original return. This transcript is only available for the current tax year and returns processed during the prior three years.

An actual copy of your tax return costs $50. Complete and mail Form 4506 to request a copy of a tax return. Mail the request to the appropriate IRS office listed on the form. People who live in a federally declared disaster area can get a free copy.

Plan ahead. Delivery times for online and phone orders typically take five to 10 days from the time the IRS receives the request. You should allow 30 days to receive a transcript ordered by mail and 75 days for copies of your tax return.
