ITIN Document, Original Certified copy or Copy of it to IRS?

My wife got certified copy of her passport from consulate few days ago. Will I need that original certified copy of her passport or she can scan that certified copy of her passport and send me digitally? Will IRS accept copy of it?

you have to send the original certified copy. not a scanned copy they will reject it immediately with photo copies. if it is for a dependent don't forget the residency documents.

Thank you. What you said is correct. one thing more, my wife mistakenly put her mailing address in form w-7 instead mine (U.S address), can i whiteout and put mine or what to do? You know in mailing address it should be mine and IRS mails on this.
