I need to issue a 1099-MISC to a caretaker. What do I use as the payer ID?

I am issuing a 1099-MISC for the first time. I have a long term care policy that reimburses me for paying a caretaker. Now I have to issue a 1099 so the caretaker can file their taxes.  When completing the form, there is a box for payer ID. What should I put there? DO I have to submit something to the IRS?

You can use your social security number for the Payer ID.

As a private person, you are not required to issue a form 1099-MISC.   however, the IRS takes the position that you may issue the form if you want to, on the grounds that it helps to increase tax compliance. To issue the form, you must send a copy to the payee and a copy to the IRS before January 31, 2020. If you do it by hand, you need to use special paper forms, you can't just download them from the Internet, you have to order them from a forms supplier.  Or you can use one of several different services on the net to e-file the 1099.

if you issue a 1099, you have to copy the IRS and include form 1096.

The payer is you and your TIN is your social security number.

Wouldn't he/she be issuing a 1099-NEC, not a 1099-MISC?
