I am seeing conflicting information coming from news sources and TurboTax on the arrival of my check, so how do I know if I need to file the Recovery Rebate Credit form?

My account on the IRS Get My Payment site is still showing that information is not available. According to news reports, this status indicates that I will need to file the Recovery Rebate Credit form. But in emails I've received directly from TurboTax, they say that they are working to process payments as soon as they can. I still have not had my stimulus check deposited, so I am wondering how I will know if I will need to file the form, or just wait and see if I receive a direct deposit or check in the mail.

Well, my question was answered for me, in the form of a direct deposit just now. Talk about coincidental timing! -OP

the form is part of the 2020 tax return; there is no separate filing.

since you can't file until late in January, you will know by then whether or not the stimulus will be arriving and can answer the questions posed in TT accordingly so that you get what is due to you.
