I'm a resident alien, married to an NRA spouse who is living abroad. She doesn't have US incoming, isn't filing US tax return, and isn't the dependent of another person. So I think I can file MFS and claim an exemption for her, is that right?
Since she's not living in the US, she doesn't have health insurance here. But Turbotax asks for that, without which there'll be a penalty. What should I do? It makes no sense for her to purchase US health insurance when she doesn't live here...

Your NRA spouse is not required to have health insurance in the US. Are you sure, your filing status is MFS? If Turbotax insists (which it shouldn't), claim an exemption (that your spouse is out of the country)
From what I understand, I'm filing MFS because my spouse qualifies for an exemption. Am I correct?
